Anti-Naga People & Anti-NSCN Congress ex-MLA Assassinated claimed NSCN (K-YA)
The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-YA) has claimed responsibility for the killing of former MP Yumson Marty, sparking anger and anxiety in the region.
In a press release issued on Thursday, NSCN-YA confirmed the strike, saying that Marty “was sentenced to death on December 16, 2023 for his involvement in various activities of the NSCN.”
Former Arunachal Pradesh MP Yumsen Matey was shot dead by militants in Laho village in Tirap district, close to the Myanmar border.
The terrorist organization accused him of “leading anti-NSCN propaganda and propaganda in the Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh” and targeting the armed faction NSCN/GPRN.
NSCN-YA defended its actions, saying it had “remained patient” over the years despite Marti’s wrongdoing “for the sake of the Naga people”. However, they said continued “lawlessness” and “attempts to suppress” the NSCN/GPRN left them no choice but to commit such “evil acts”.
NSCN (YA) denies any link between the killings and the upcoming elections in Arunachal Pradesh, saying NSCN/GPRN “do not interfere in Indian politics”.
NSCN-YA ended its speech by issuing a dire warning to all those who question its views, saying “those with anti-Naga attitudes will not cease or desist even in the coming days.”
