Shift camps from Naga territory in Manipur, NSCN warns UNLF(P)

Kohima: In the wake of the recent peace agreement between the Indian government and the United National Liberation Front (Pambei group), the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) has expressed serious concern and opposition to the establishment of UNLF designated camp within Naga territory in Manipur.

The NSCN in a press release on Friday said it is responsible for protecting the rights and well-being of the Nagas and preserving the territorial integrity of Nagalim, has viewed the UNLF’s presence with suspicion.

The organization sees its primary duty as safeguarding its people against external threats and ensuring a stable and secure environment for the Naga community.

Expressing dismay at the unilateral establishment of UNLF camps without the consent or knowledge of the Naga public, the NSCN has called for the immediate relocation of these camps. The intrusion into Naga territory by UNLF (Pambei group) forces has been labeled as reckless and condemnable by the NSCN leadership.

The NSCN has pointed out the contrast between the careful arrangements made during the ceasefire agreement between the Indian government and NSCN, where designated camps were established through formal discussions, and the haphazard manner in which the UNLF camps were set up.

The NSCN leadership has raised concerns about whether the Indian government’s actions are aimed at stoking communal tensions between the Meiteis and the Nagas, emphasizing the need to address these issues promptly to avoid undesirable consequences.
