A brief biography of Gen. (Retd.) Baba Kholi Konyak, VC, on the fifth anniversary of his passing
General (Retd.) Kholi Konyak – VC, who was born in 1928 and is regarded as one of the tallest Konyak leaders, accounting for 35% of the Naga population, enlisted in the national military in 1956 at the age of 28.

Among his notable accomplishments and positions while his active duty are
1) He was chosen to travel to China in 1968 as one of 130 NNC cadres under Isak Chishi Swu’s leadership to get training and weapons.
2) He was chosen for the China Mission a second time in 1975.
3) He was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) during the Martial in 1978.

4) He was named the undivided NSCN’s Deputy Commander-in-Chief in 1980.
5) He became a member of the SS Khaplang organization in 1988 and was made Commander-in-Chief.
6) In 2011, the NSCN Unification group president.
7) He became a member of NSCN(IM) in 2016 and served as Vice-Chairman until his passing.
Kholi was a person who was skilled at making the appropriate choices when they were needed. He proved to be a tough guy, like a hard nut to crack, particularly when it came to morally dubious judgments.
On December 12, 2018, after 61 years of devotion to the country, he passed away.
