NSCN-K (YA), SELECTS LEADERS FOR THE KONYAK Region
NSCN-K (YA), situated in Myanmar, selects leaders for the Konyak area. After an emergency meeting at its council offices the Konyak area leadership of the Myanmar-based NSCN-K (Yung Aung) was chosen.Self Styled Col (Rtd) Joseph, the deputy Kilonser for NSCN-K (YA), provided an update on Tuesday stating that Tikling Konyak and Tolong Konyak were appointed as acting chairman and vice chairman, respectively, by the Peoples’ Council.
Joseph notified. “These recently appointed officials will function as the Konyak Region’s interim authority for a period of six (6) months.”
The group expressed its optimism and determination that the Region will proceed with newfound power, bravery, and resolve in the days ahead under the new leadership.
This year’s June saw the breakup of the NSCN-K (YA). Ang Mai, a self-proclaimed major general (Rtd) and former personal secretary of SS Khaplang, was chosen to lead the newly formed NSCN-K after it broke away from the NSCN-K (YA).
The new faction was accused by the NSCN-K (YA) of being a front group for Indian intelligence working against the Naga resistance. It said that the breakaway faction’s establishment is a direct danger to the current conflict and a “open defiance” of the Eastern Naga public’s desire for peace and stability.Additionally, the organization “sternly directed” the breakaway faction to dissolve and turn themselves in to the authorities.
